The US Treasury's ten year bond has bee the bench mark for the US bond market and a macroeconomic indicator for over two decades. The government backed bond offers a guaranteed return to institutional investors. As of this writing yields on Treasury notes are at a decade long low, due to repeated interest rates cuts and demand for super safe havens for cash from hedge funds, pensions, and foreign governments.
