Symantec provides a range of computing solutions for both enterprises and individual consumers. Founded in 1982, Symantec is headquartered in Cupertino, California. The company (ticker symbol: SYMC) trades on the Nasdaq. Well mostly known for their consumer anti virus suite, Norton, Symantec products address a range of issues including data protection, storage, compliance, system management, and security. The company operates in four segments Consumer Products, Security and Compliance, Storage and Server Management, and Services. As a tech company focused heavily on security Symantec faces the dual challenges of an increasingly open and connected world and a growing need for service based solutions. To strengthen its position as an industry leader Symantec has been on the look out for innovators – recently acquiring Vontu and MessageLabs. While the rapid rate of interconnectivity poses new challenges for Symantec, the monetary crisis may provide it with the opportunity to strengthen its position as a market leader as smaller startups are starved of capital. The consolidation of tech companies that occurs during downturns may provide Symantec with an influx talent and innovation that it would not have had in a more competitive environment.
